This tattoo design I found pretty challenging
When designing tattoo from a philosophy, story or message. Sometimes I lost in translation because the boundaries is so abstract, It push my creativity to interpreting into visual form, The result is a truly unique tattoo for the holder and feels so genuine.
My client want something to be a reminder for him, something that represent a protector of his family and also love. so I choose an ornament from Songket Sumatra, a rigid pattern that suit for interpretation of protector. placing it on the outside of the leg even enhance the statement of the piece purpose. On the inside part is floral ornament inspired by Batik pattern, a flowy and fluid visual represent a soft and lovely man who take care his family.
The red flower and red diamond is just part of my tattoo style, it is the representation of my root as Balinese. The design element that always exist in my design such as black, red and white ( the negative space ) is the reorientation of Tri Datu.
Funny thing about this project is, I have a same dandelion tattoo like my client does, with same ankle placement.
